How to Make Fruity Boba Tea

Makes 2 servings // Total time: 15 minutes // Prep time: 5 minute

INGREDIENTS

  • 5 cups filtered water
  • 2 rounded tsp loose leaf or 2 sachets/bags of your favorite fruit tea
  • Tapioca pearls
  • Ice
  • Wide straws
  • Fresh fruit of your choice
  • Honey or sweetener of your choice

DIRECTIONS

Boil two cups of water on the stove or in a tea kettle to begin making your tea. Steep the fruit-flavored tea of your choice following the package instructions. For this recipe, we’re using about 1 tsp of tea or 1 tea bag/sachet per serving and steeping for 3-5 minutes.

As the tea brews, start preparing the tapioca pearls for your boba tea. You can make your own tapioca pearls, but for simplicity in this recipe, we recommend buying dried tapioca pearls online or from a local Asain grocery store. Start by boiling 3 cups of water on the stove in a medium pot, then add 1 cup of tapioca pearls. Wait until the tapioca pearls float to the top, then stir and cook for 2-3 more minutes, or until they soften to taste. Finally, scoop them out and place the pearls in a bowl of cold water to rest for 30 seconds. Strain and mix in brown sugar or honey.

After your tapioca is cooked (aka it's deliciously chewy and sweet), spoon your desired amount of boba into the bottom of your glass. Next, add a few scoops of chopped fresh fruit, ice cubes, and pour your cooled tea over the top!
