TEA INFUSED CANDLE

Makes 1 teacup candle

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 4 teabags OR 4 tsp loose leaf tea (Not sure which tea to use? Check out our Best Herbal Tea shop)
  • 1 mug or teacup
  • 1/4 cup coconut, vegetable, or olive oil
  • 1 cup wax
  • 1 candle wick
  • 1 disposable dish/pan to melt wax
  • 5 drops complimentary essential oil
  • hot glue gun OR super glue

WHAT TO DO

In the disposable pan, heat the oil on your stovetop. Add in your favorite tea (if using teabags, cut them open and empty their contents into the pan) and steep for 15-20 minutes. Stir in the essential oil and wax until everything is melted and well combined.

Use a hot glue gun or super glue to attach the wick directly to the bottom center of the mug/teacup. Make sure the bond is strong and the glue will hold. Once the glue is dry, hold the wick upright and pour in the melted wax/oil mixture.

In order for the candle to dry with the wick upright, something must hold the wick up while the wax is setting. You can manually hold the wick up for two hours, but this could prove to be inconvenient. Another option is rest a large wooden pin across the top of the mug with the wick pinched through it. Or, you could balance a whisk across the top of the mug and use it to hold up the wick.

Once the candle is set (about 2 hours), trim the wick, light it up, and enjoy the aroma!

I tried this with vegetable oil but it just burnt my tea :( I feel like I had to add a lot of essential oil to mask the burnt smell. Don’t know if coconut or olive oil would be a better result

Sounds like a great idea! I can’t wait to try it!

I love this idea, I’ll be running to the thrift store in the morning for some pretty tea cups…already have everything else.
