Mulled Wine Tea

Makes 6-8 glasses // Prep Time: 5 minutes // Active Time: 20 minutes

  • 3 cups of festive black tea or chai tea.
  • 1 bottle of inexpensive dry red wine
  • ¼ cup sugar, maple syrup, or honey to taste
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tsp whole cloves
  • 8 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • Ground nutmeg
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • Additional orange slices and cinnamon sticks for garnish

Brew your favorite tea, then simmer in a large saucepan with preferred sweetener, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, star anise, and a few dashes of nutmeg for 5-10 minutes or until sweetener is dissolved.

Pour wine into the saucepan and bring to a brief simmer over medium-high heat. Tip: be careful not to let it boil or you’ll burn off the alcohol.

Reduce mixture to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.

Strain the orange and spices from your mulled mixture and sweeten to taste.

Serve the mulled wine tea in your favorite mug and enjoy with an extra cinnamon stick and slice of orange to garnish!
