A whiskey chai latte - doesn’t that just sound decadent? Bet you can't get one of those at your local Starbucks and what's even better is you can brew one up at home and make it exactly how you like it. You definitely can make this one without the whiskey, making it a delectable beverage for a cold and brisk morning. And if you do end up adding in the whiskey, it would a perfect ‘round-the-campfire brew. We like it both ways but be sure to let us know how you like it best in the comments!
HOT WHISKEY CHAI LATTE
Makes 4-6 glasses // Prep Time: 10 minutes // Active Time: 5 minutes
- 4 cups whole milk (or non-dairy milk)
- 4 rounded tsp loose leaf (like this Classic Chai by Davidson's Organic Teas) or 4 sachets/bags chai tea
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar or 2 tbsp honey/maple syrup
- 1/2 cup bourbon or whiskey
- Cinnamon sticks and whipped cream for garnish
Make your chai latte by heating the milk in a double boiler on medium-low until it is hot to the touch. Alternatively, you can heat it up in the microwave on half power for 30 seconds at a time until it's hot to the touch. Once the milk is warmed up (remove from heat), add in the tea and let steep for 5-10 minutes, or until desired flavor. Remove (strain) tea and transfer to a saucepan.
After the chai latte is ready, reheat it in the saucepan over medium low heat. Add in the whiskey/bourbon and sugar. Serve hot and garnish with a cinnamon stick and a dollop of whipped cream to be extra decadent. Enjoy!
