Green Tea Shrimp

This refreshing Green Tea Shrimp will satisfy all of your savory cravings. It's light, healthy, and oh so tasty. Nazanin from Tea Thoughts was able to double the power of the amazing Gyokuro green tea by incorporating both the leaves and the brewed tea into a delicious sauce that really brings the dish together.

Green Tea Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brewed Gyokuro tea
  • 2 tbsp brewed Gyokuro tea leaves
  • 1 tbsp sambal oelek
  • 1-2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1/2 cup asparagus, chopped (or amount of preference)
  • 1/2 cup yellow and orange bell peppers (or amount of preference)
  • 1 cup Jasmine rice, cooked
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb shrimp, raw
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

To make the green tea sauce, brew the Gyokuro tea leaves for 2 minutes, strain them, and let the tea cool. Place 1/2 cup of the brewed tea and the leaves in a bowl. Add in the soy sauce, sambal oelek, and mirin and mix until everything is completely combined.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet on medium heat. Once it is hot, add the garlic and let it simmer. After the garlic has browned and become aromatic, add in the raw shrimp. Stir the shrimp and garlic until the shrimp becomes slightly colored.

Next, add into the skillet the asparagus and bell peppers. Stir the ingredients together and pour the green tea sauce over the shrimp and vegetables, making sure that it's well mixed in and everything is evenly coated.

Cover the skillet with a lid and turn the heat to low. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, checking on the shrimp occasionally to make sure that it's not overdone. To check if the shrimp is done cooking, cut it open to ensure that it's opaque.

Serve the shrimp and vegetables over rice and top with any remaining green tea sauce and sesame seeds, if desired. Enjoy!
