While some may thoroughly enjoy downing green beer or other green beverages to celebrate Irish culture and heritage on St. Patrick’s day, this recipe gives you an option to make a green cocktail without the help of food coloring! Yes, kiwis have nothing to do with Ireland, but they are tasty and make a beautifully colored concoction. Celebrate the occasion in confidence with this light, refreshing, and extremely green cocktail made with kiwis, green tea, and mint - sláinte! (That’s Irish Gaelic for cheers!)
FUZZY LEPRECHAUN
Makes 1 glass // Prep Time: 5 minutes // Active Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 rounded tsp loose leaf or 1 sachet/bag green tea
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1 kiwi, peeled
- 5 fresh mint leaves
- 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 oz (2 tbsp) agave syrup, simple syrup, or honey
- 2 oz vodka, gin, or tequila
- Ice cubes
- A mint sprig and/or kiwi slice for garnish
Directions
Heat water to 175°F and steep tea for 1-3 minutes. Remove (strain) tea and set aside to cool to room temperature (15 minutes), add in some ice cubes to help your tea cool down faster!
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the kiwi, mint leaves, lime juice, and sweetener with a muddler or end of a wooden spoon. Add in a handful of ice and your alcohol of choice and shake well (about 15-20 seconds). Strain into a cocktail glass over ice, add in the green tea, and gently stir. Garnish with a mint sprig and/or a kiwi round and enjoy!
