This is a super simple way to add a detox boost to your morning tea. Because lemons and cinnamon go well with pretty much any type of tea, choose your favorite type, add them in, and you’re automatically promoting healthy detoxifying processes for your body! Lemons are alkalizing, which means they help restore the body’s pH balance. Lemons also promote healthy digestion and boost immunity from the high amounts of vitamin C. Cinnamon balances blood sugar and has intense antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Also, you can reuse your cinnamon sticks! They can actually be used 4-5 times before they fully lose their flavor and health benefits. To reuse one, rinse it under hot water and allow it to dry. The next time you’re ready to use it, lightly run it over a grater to release the flavor. So there you have it! Do your body a favor and include these beneficial additions in your next cuppa!

CINNAMON LEMON DETOX TEA

Makes 1 glass // Prep Time: 5 minutes // Active Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 2 rounded tsp loose leaf or 2 sachets/bags of your favorite tea (black, green, herbal cinnamon or ginger, etc)
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2-4 cinnamon sticks
  • 3-4 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1-2 tbsp honey or maple syrup or agave nectar (optional)
  • Lemon wheels for an extra lemony effect

Directions

Using 1 cup of water, brew your tea following the package instructions or reference our handy guide, Tealover Lesson 105, on how to brew any kind of tea! We've added more tea in this recipe than the usual suggested brewing amount to balance out the flavors from the spices.

Combine the spices and the other cup of water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. As soon as it starts to boil, lower the heat to low so that the mixture is just steeping and not simmering. Add in the lemon juice/wheels and sweeneter (if you'd like), cover, and let steep for 5-10 minutes.

Once your spices are done brewing, remove from heat and strain into a teapot or pitcher, and then add in the brewed tea. Stir, add in lemon wheels to make it look nice and give you some extra detoxing magic, and enjoy it while it's hot! Feel free to experiment with how much cinnamon or cloves you'd like to use, depending on how strong you'd like your detox tea.
