Tea Beauty: Green Tea Lip Balm

green tea lip balm

Winter weather can be extremely drying, especially for your lips. The wind and cold weather can leave you with a painfully dry, cracked, or peeling pout. If you can relate, check out this recipe for green tea lip balm. This lip balm is extremely gentle, healing, and hydrating - all while protecting your lips from the elements.

GREEN TEA LIP BALM

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Green tea-infused oil:

  • 2/3 cup coconut oil
  • 4 tbsp green tea leaves

Lip balm:

  • 2 oz. green tea-infused oil
  • 2 tbsp beeswax
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tbsp almond oil
  • 1 tbsp shea butter

WHAT TO DO

To make green tea-infused oil, use a double boiler to melt the coconut oil. Add in the green tea leaves, cover, and simmer on low heat for at least 1 hour. While the oil is cool enough to handle but still in liquid form, pour it through a fine strainer to remove the tea leaves. Set aside 2 oz. of infused oil for this recipe and store the remaining oil in an airtight container.

To make the lip balm, combine 2 oz. of green tea-infused oil, the beeswax, and the shea butter in a double boiler over medium heat. Stir the mixture over heat until everything is melted and well combined. Remove from heat and stir in the honey and almond oil. With a whisk, whip the mixture (either by hand or with an electric mixture) until it is smooth and creamy.

Transfer the lip balm to a small container or empty lipstick tube. Allow it to set completely and then enjoy your smooth and moisturized lips!
