Bring on the matcha madness! This month we’re featuring Naked Grass Skirt, a simple yet delicious blend of organic Japanese Matcha and organic coconut milk - truly a matcha made in heaven!

Matcha is a type of green tea from Japan that has been finely ground into powder form - instead of being steeped like loose leaf tea, the powder is whisked into water to create a vibrant green liquid. Matcha has been used throughout history by Buddhist monks during meditation and in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, but has been gaining widespread popularity due to its incredible effects on the body and mind. Our favorite thing about matcha is the L-theanine, an amino acid which relaxes the body while stimulating the mind. In combination with caffeine, L-theanine produces a smooth, sustained energy and jitter-free mental alertness. Since you consume the entirety of the tea leaves, you also benefit from powerful vitamins, antioxidants and fiber that aren’t fully extracted from normal steeped tea.

Tea Xotics perfectly pairs their matcha with coconut milk, which is naturally packed with healthy fats, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, and is organic, dairy-free, and vegan. The combination supports healthy energy and endurance levels, among many other benefits. Whisk it into water with a bamboo whisk or electric frother, and enjoy hot or iced, straight-up or with some sweetener. You can also try adding to smoothies, cereal, or baked goods for a superfood boost!

Based in El Dorado Hills, California, Tea Xotics is a women-owned and operated loose leaf tea company that focuses on products and services that encourage a lifestyle of health, vitality, wellness, and revival! All of their teas are designed and blended in-house using the highest quality ingredients sourced from around the world, with earth-friendly and plant-based packaging. In addition to their matcha blends, Tea Xotics provides loose leaf tea blends with flavors from all around the world, as well as natural handmade beauty products.

yunnan gold

With this next March featured tea, you’ll be able to brew up a pot of gold - Yunnan Gold, that is! This high-end Chinese black tea comes from Yunnan province and is made up entirely of fine leaf buds, or “golden tips”. Their beautiful golden sheen results from a special withering process, and they produce a golden-brown cup of tea that has a toasty sweet flavor with a soft chocolate aftertaste.

Yunnan teas are known as the “mochas of tea” - they are produced in the mountainous region of Yunnan in Southern China, which is believed to be the birthplace of tea. Yunnan produces more black tea than any other province in China (it’s also where puerh tea comes from), and its unique climate and soil conditions give Yunnan teas their rich, creamy texture.

Kuan Yin Teas - formerly called Teahouse Kuan Yin - is based in Seattle, Washington and has been providing some of the finest loose leaf teas available since 1990. The current owners, Denice and Marcus, purchased the teahouse in 2004 and transitioned it into an online-only tea experience in 2016. Their goal is to offer the finest examples of high grade teas from around the world at accessible prices while opening a dialog about teas! Kuan Yin Teas is a great place to find high quality loose leaf teas, from classics to unique, rare finds. They also sell teapots, gaiwans, matcha bowls and other brewing accessories so you can enrich your tea-drinking experience even further.

Some other lovely Kuan Yin teas sent out in Sips by boxes this month include Organic Assam - a full-bodied Indian black tea - and Morning Dew - a refreshing Chinese green tea.

Time to get comfy! Our next March pick is a special herbal blend that helps us get rid of the aches and pains that ail us, and get us in the spirit of the new growth and new beginnings of Spring.

Based in Brooklyn, NY, Abbé Tea Company was founded by two acupuncturists - Autumn and Erica - professionally trained in both Western and Chinese herbalism. Featuring organic, fair trade and sustainably harvested ingredients, they harmoniously blend classical Chinese medicine philosophy with modern herbal innovations. Abbé Tea Co's blends are not only delicious and beautiful, but also intentionally crafted to bring you balance and wellness using the Five Elements - a central part of Chinese herbal philosophy.

When it comes to pain, Chinese medicine seeks to tackle the underlying issue that is causing the pain in the first place, instead of simply treating the symptoms with a quick fix. Pain can result from a number of factors - both emotional and physical. It’s our body’s way of communicating that something is off-balance and that a change needs to happen! As with acupuncture, things that encourage the flow of qi (energy) through the body can help relieve certain types of pain and create more balance. Remedy is a blend that does just this - it makes us feel good from the inside out with powerful turmeric, stimulating cinnamon, pain-reducing skullcap, invigorating safflower, chocolatey cacao nibs, mood-enhancing rose petals, aromatic pink peppercorn and anti-inflammatory vanilla red rooibos.

Some of you also may have received Cloud Nine - a sweet-floral blend of vanilla rooibos, pink and red rose petals, and chrysanthemum to help you find happiness, connection and love!

Spring is coming! We're anxiously awaiting those warmer, longer days filled with sunshine and fresh blooms. Some of you will venture off to tropical destinations for Spring Break, but either way, we’ve got a tea that will transport you right away to a tropical Thai beach!

Bangkok Chai takes a classic Indian spice blend of black tea, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom, and adds traditional Thai lemongrass and coconut shavings for a refreshing, naturally sweet tropical twist. If you’re a chai lover looking to entertain your tastebuds with some fun new flavors, give this one a chai (hehe)!

Based in Denver, Colorado and founded by Manuel Solis, Kleff Tea strives to become the go-to source for premium loose leaf tea in the Rocky Mountain Region. They micro-blend all teas locally to ensure the best flavor, quality and aroma, and their teas and ingredients are sourced directly from origin from reputable, fair trade sources. Kleff is a variation of the word clef, the musical term - Kleff Tea believes that the combination of notes, tones, ingredients and flavors of a tea blend form a harmony that is pleasing to the tastebuds when done with care!

Other delicious Kleff Tea blends placed in recent Sips by boxes include Cancun Escapade, a caffeine-free tropical rooibos blend, Morning Stroll, a complex and invigorating green tea blend, and Raspberry, a black tea bursting with juicy berry flavor.
