VIKING MOXIE Sips by MOXTEA

moxtea

Rebalance your body and sharpen your mind this month with a natural blend of tea and herbs inspired by ancient herbal remedies and health-boosters from different civilizations around the world!

Based in Toronto, Canada, MoxTea was founded by Michael Massiah, who noticed that so many people (including himself) needed a natural energy boost without the jitters or crash of coffee. He found his inspiration while traveling through East Asia and Northern Europe, learning the power of herbal remedies and why they had been used for centuries by certain cultures. He researched further and came up with the perfect energy-boosting tea blend.

Viking Moxie is designed to give you a healthy energy boost while bringing calmness to your day, actively restoring your body’s natural balance while increasing mental clarity and focus! It includes herbs that were used by Romans, Chinese, and even Vikings thousands of years ago. Here are a few of the herbs used in this blend:

  • Rhodiola Rosea: An adaptogen that lets you adapt to stress in your environment. It was supposedly used by Vikings thousands of years ago for energy and focus before battle.
  • Gotu Kola: Called the “fountain of youth” in China, India, Indonesia and other parts of the world for its amazing healing effects. Gotu kola is believed to help lower anxiety, raise mental clarity and improve skin quality.
  • Icelandic Moss: A classic Viking herb used to heal fever, strengthen the immune system, and boost overall energy.
  • Ginkgo Biloba: Improves blood flow in the body and helps sharpen thinking, learning and memory. It also is believed to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The above herbs are balanced with green tea and some more familiar ingredients - cinnamon, clove and rose - which provide the lovely aroma and taste of this blend, as well as additional functional benefits: rose aids in digestion and is healthy for skin, cinnamon contains antioxidants and can help regulate blood sugar, and clove can relieve joint pain and fight bacteria.

ROOIBOS Sips by ROOIBOS ROCKS

rooibosrocks

Springtime is here - and that means allergy season for some of us! It’s a perfect time to stock up on rooibos (pronounced “roy-boss” and meaning "red bush"), a ruby red caffeine-free brew from South Africa with allergy-fighting potential, that is also jam-packed with antioxidants, keeps you calm, relaxed, and hydrated, and is even great for kids!

On their first visit to South Africa on their honeymoon, Madeleine and Christopher fell in love with its natural beauty and people, and decided to make a new home there. Raised in the UK where tea is a way of life, they noticed everyone was drinking rooibos, and decided to tell the world about this amazing tea by sharing its heritage in a fun, flavorful, and typically South African way! They founded Rooibos Rocks, sourcing teas that are sustainably and ethically grown, while supporting local farming families that grow them.

Grown only in the Cederberg region of the Western Cape of South Africa, rooibos has a unique bold and sweet nutty taste with no bitter aftertaste. Its sister Honeybush has an extra hint of sweet thanks to its honey-scented flowers. There is also a “green” version of rooibos, which is heated soon after picking to avoid oxidation - it is known to have even higher levels of antioxidants and to have a brighter, more grassy taste than the more common red rooibos.

There are multiple ways you can enjoy rooibos - brew as you would a typical black or herbal tea (with boiling water, steeping for 5+ min) and drink hot, or add ice for a refreshing and hydrating cold drink. You can add milk and sweetener as you please - we love almondmilk rooibos lattes with a bit of honey! :)

In addition to their signature Natural Rooibos, some of you also may have received Green RooibosHoneybush, or Chai Rooibos from Rooibos Rocks in your Sips by box this month.

LAVENDER COCONUT YAUPON Sips by YAUPON BROTHERS

yauponbrothers

This lovely aromatic blend of Florida-grown yaupon holly, rooibos, coconut and lavender delivers an antioxidant boost, along with a smooth, jitter-free caffeination effect.

Based in Volusia County, Florida, Yaupon Brothers was founded by brothers Bryon and Kyle White in 2012 when they discovered how delicious and stimulating yaupon was when prepared as an herbal tea - but they couldn't buy it anywhere! Yaupon holly is an American-native shrub that's North America's only native caffeinated plant species. A close relative to yerba mate and guayusa, yaupon is America's answer to coffee and tea.

Consumed by Native Americans for millennia, yaupon is both healthy for people and for the environment - it grows abundantly in the wild and can be grown and harvested without fertilizer, pesticides, or harmful labor practices.

In addition to the stimulant effect and cognitive benefits due to caffeine, Yaupon also contains high levels of vitamins (such as A and C), and antioxidants, as well as theobromine, which is a stimulating alkaloid also found in cocoa. It is believed to reduce blood pressure and can be used to alleviate asthma. In this particular blend, lavender eases nervous tension while adding an incredible fresh, floral aroma, and coconut adds a touch of natural sweetness.
