A nice vibrant green sencha is a nourishing and clarifying option to start ridding yourself of winter heaviness. It’s also a great way to celebrate the beginning of the harvesting season for green tea around the world! Sencha green tea is the most ubiquitous green tea of Japan (it accounts for over 80% of the tea produced and consumed in Japan!). It is grown in full sun and steamed to give it an extra bright green color and clean finish.

We are excited to be featuring Yunomi’s Premium Sayama Sencha, Suiren. This delicious sencha is vegetal and grassy, yet also sweet and floral. It was created by the Morita family of 10th generation tea farmers in the Sayama region of Saitama Prefecture, Japan. This particular tea is named Suiren 睡蓮 睡蓮 which means “water lily” or “sleeping lotus” - a symbol of enlightenment in Japan and China because the plant rises from the darkness of the pond and blooms into the light!

This sencha is wonderful hot or cold - for refreshing cold-brewed tea, try brewing the leaves in cold water overnight to reduce bitterness and really bring out the complexity of flavor!

Around this time of year, our bodies naturally begin to crave lighter meals in preparation for the warmer weather - it’s a perfect time to rid ourselves of toxins and heaviness we built up throughout the winter months, through a healthy diet and exercise. Tea is a wonderful compliment to this cleansing process.

You may have heard or seen a lot of buzz about detox or “teatox” teas - do they really work, and are they safe? You should really be cautious of where you buy them and the ingredients they contain. Many teatox companies use laxatives such as senna in their teas - this will dehydrate you and give you the impression of a flat stomach so you think it’s working. These teas are very damaging with prolonged and constant use - so make sure your tea contains only natural and safe ingredients!

Weight Loss Tea by Higher Tea is a delicious, gentle cleansing tea for anyone - as a compliment to your fitness and wellness regimen, as a detox to flush out the bad stuff in your system and make room for healthier diets or habits, or just as delicious drink that tastes great while also making you feel lighter and uplifted. It’s a blend of Wu Yi Oolong, Pu-erh, dandelion root, ginseng root, marshmallow root, cinnamon and fennel seeds - no mystery ingredients here! Higher Tea is a family run business based in New Zealand and founded by a qualified Naturopath.
